One of the most popular actors from the classic years of Doctor Who will be making the trip to Atlanta’s Premier Doctor Who and British Culture convention next May.
Louise Jameson, who portrayed the Fourth Doctor’s companion Leela, has been announced as a guest at WHOlanta 2018, which will be held at the Hilton Atlanta Airport hotel on May 4-6, 2018.
“Every year, our convention goers ask us to bring some of their favorites to Atlanta,” said WHOlanta Vice President and Programming Coordinator Alan Siler.” Louise is always at the top of every guest ‘wish list’ that we are given, and we’re very happy to finally make that wish come true by bringing her to WHOlanta 2018.
“Louise is one of most popular classic Doctor Who actors, and her reach and appeal has stretched far beyond her time just on the program. We’ve very pleased to be able to bring her to WHOlanta to spend time with her fans.”
Jameson is best known to Doctor Who fans as the leather clad warrior Leela, the second full time companion to Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor. She portrayed Leela from 1977 through 1978, first appearing in the four part serial “The Face of Evil.”
Jameson has returned to the role in recent years in a series of Big Finish Audio adventures, many opposite Baker. She also has appeared in other audio dramas for Big Finish, including Sapphire & Steele and Dark Shadows.
Born in Wanstead, London, Jameson attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She spent two years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including roles in King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet and Blithe Spirit. Her early television appearances included Emmerdale and The Omega Factor. She would later star in the first two series of Tenko, and then spend five years in a starring role in Bergerac. She would also appear in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4, The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole, and Rides.
In 1998, Jameson joined the cast of the BBC soap opera EastEnders, appearing in over 200 episodes between 1998 and 2000. She also appeared in River City and Doc Martin. In 2007, she toured in a one-woman show, Face Value, and in 2013 she starred in the play Gutted, and was nominated for Best Female Performance at the 2013 Off West End Theater Awards.
